Education

Each year, the ACI Nebraska Chapter provides scholarship awards to deserving students based on their interest and ability in concrete design, construction, and materials. The scholarships, offered in the name of Nebraska Chapter retired Executive Secretary Richard T. “Dick” DeLorm are awarded at the annual Awards of Excellence Banquet held in January or February of the new year.

Pursuing an Associate Degree in Building Construction Technology at Southeast Community College in Milford

Walter has demonstrated a clear ambition to grow into a leadership role within a company specializing in residential and commercial concrete construction. His letters of recommendation consistently emphasize his reliability, strong work ethic, and positive attitude. He is known for arriving early, staying late when needed, and stepping in to support his coworkers. Together, these qualities highlight not only his dedication to the skilled trades but also his strong potential to become a future leader in the construction industry.

Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a Minor in Business Administration

Hallie has developed extensive hands-on experience through laboratory work, concrete plant tours, and participation in national student competitions, including concrete bowling ball and masonry bridge events. Her active involvement in professional organizations such as AGC, NAWIC, and The Masonry Society further reflects her commitment to professional growth and emerging leadership within the construction industry.

Zhaniya Omarova - Lincoln, NE

Pursuing a Master’s Degree at the University of Nebraska–Omaha

Zhaniya’s academic focus centers on concrete materials science and mix design, with a particular interest in sustainable materials and the use of recycled and industrial by-products. While pursuing her master’s degree, she is collaborating with the Nebraska Department of Transportation on research to optimize curing strategies to reduce shrinkage cracking in bridge decks. Her work demonstrates a strong commitment to translating research into practical, real-world construction applications.
